Universal Design for Learning, accessibility, and inclusive educational innovation return to Palm Springs.
Following the launch of UDL-Con at Spring CUE 2026, CALIE and CAST are continuing their partnership at Spring Forward 2027, March 18-20, 2027, in Palm Springs, California. The collaboration brings together district administrators, educators, school leaders, instructional coaches, and technology innovators to explore how Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility, and inclusive technology can improve outcomes for all learners.
UDL-Con runs inside the conference, with two dedicated UDL session rooms open all three days. Sessions are led by experts from CAST, the nonprofit that created the UDL framework, along with district leaders and classroom practitioners.
They focus on:

- Research-based strategies for removing barriers and designing for learner variability
- Practical tools that combine UDL with instructional innovation and technology
- Building expert learners who are purposeful, resourceful, and motivated
“Our collaboration with CAST has created a powerful opportunity to connect innovation with inclusive practice,” said Christine Feenstra, Executive Director of CALIE. “As we look ahead to Spring Forward 2027, we’re excited to deepen those conversations and support educators as they navigate the future of teaching and learning.”
“The enthusiasm we saw for UDL, accessibility, and inclusive innovation made it clear that educators are looking for practical approaches that put learners at the center,” said Lindsay Jones, CEO of CAST. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with CALIE and help increase learning experiences that remove barriers and expand opportunities for all learners.”
CAST Preconference Workshops on March 17
On March 17, the day before the conference, CAST will lead two interactive workshops for educators and leaders who want to strengthen accessibility and inclusive instructional design. Both run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so attendees choose one.
Accessibility in Action: Turning the What, Why, & How of Accessibility into Practice
Learn how to create more accessible digital materials, select accessible educational technology, and build systems that proactively reduce barriers for learners. Participants will leave with practical strategies for improving access, participation, and belonging across classrooms, schools, and districts.
Design for All: Exploring Universal Design for Learning
Explore how the UDL Guidelines help educators create flexible learning environments that anticipate learner variability from the start. Participants will gain actionable strategies to increase engagement, learner agency, and success while designing learning experiences that work for a wide range of learners.
Each workshop is $250 and does not require a conference pass. Register for a CAST preconference workshop.
